To go along with Ben's new San Gorgonio Wilderness Cam, I made up a labeled photo to help in identifying what you see on the cam. South is basically in the center of this photo, about 1/2 way between Charlton Peak & Shields Peak.

Super cool Cammy!

No good deed goes unpunished.

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me alone.

Boy Scout Peak is between Charlton and Shields. Ok, maybe not an "official" peak but there is a register.

Y'know, Nietzsche says: "Out of chaos comes order."

so where is time lapse button for everyday use?

"give them an inch and they want a mile"

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Someone who thinks logically provides a nice contrast to the real world.

Thanx, Benny. Always love your explainations and good work you and Craig put into the site. And the other Mods as well.

No, it doesn't work quite like that, in fact winds would really help stir up the air and equalize temperatures; it's when we have such stagnant/still air that things reverse, warm air rises and a pock of cool air sinks just below. It won't necessarily spill over the dam and mostly settles into the lowest parts of the Valley which would be more towards the east end of town, pretty much Division eastward, Baldwin Lake/Shay Meadow/Erwin, etc. Right now it would be a bit warmer around the lake given the current lake temperature @ about 60 degrees. A much more detailed explanation can be found here. [Click Here]

Is it the prevailing west wind that is preventing the air from sinking out of the valley?

I just so thought that cold air would drain down the valley and over the dam. What is the geography that maintains that inversion?

Yeah it's pretty crazy, heres more proof of our wicked inversion, at the top of Bear Mtn at about 8500 the current temperature is 52 degrees. [Click Here] Stuff! but not when we're trying to make snow...

Must be one of Benny's All Hallows Eve inspired mid-slope inversions. With the partial eclipse today and all. I'm just sayin'.

Wow. 37.6 at Shay Meadow and 66.7 here in Crestline.

I felt sorry for them, and they seemed like a decent family unit but it did not seem right. I will keep an eye on the news. DHS is not the smartest place to get out of your car at night. Or even in the daytime in some areas.
I have seen some very strange things going on. Very friendly girls I had a couple who offered to cook me dinner

Probably a wise decision. Those folks can be wise and resourceful. and might be making a living off of situations like yours.

Not much to write about from my end but I did have something happen a week or so ago.
I went to the local pizza hut and while I was waitng a Mexican family came in man, woman, mother in law and son. I saw they were careful about what they ordered. I got my pie and left. As I was starting to pull out the man and his son came out. He approached me about possibly giving them a ride.
Obviously from Mexico as he spoke zero English.
I never give rides, and it was late at night and it would have been ten miles out of my way.
It would have been a very dangerous move on my part. While they seemed O.K. I cannot figure out why they were there in the first place, and how they finally got "home" There was a Wendy's much closer to where they started.
Any thoughts on the situation?
