Hi all. So ask yourself, do you really feel prepared to deal with the aftermath of a major earthquake? What would you do if your water system was severely compromised and unusable? Do you know how to shut off the gas to your house? What if your house was shifted off its foundation and not safe to enter? Do you have a plan? What about your family?

This isn't a fantasy scenario, it's what I just spent the last 16 days responding to and dealing with in Trona. It can happen again and it could happen here.

You are invited to learn more about disaster preparedness and how to help yourself, your neighbors and your community through Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training by visiting Ready.gov [Click Here].

For more information, contact the Big Bear CERT Coordinator Eric Steele at eric©ericsteele.net or Big Bear CERT Fire Liaison Nick Bruinsma at nbruinsma©bigbearfire.org. You can also contact the County Fire OES CERT Coordinator John Ferdon at john.ferdon©oes.sbcounty.gov.

I got my owl box at the hardware store for under $20.00....it might have been on sale, but for the years of pleasure it was really worth it.

My screech owl has been here for 3 years now and towards dusk he hangs his head out of his box....I love having him here!! I also have a bat box but they prefer over the front door.

Doo hickey, I think you are right. Probably birds. Got all excited for nothing. Bats or owls would have been cool. Although, birds are pretty great too.

Back in the early 80's we had a burrowing owl that we had rescued and was part of the family for a couple of years. Very interesting experience. Every now and then I will see one hanging around our lakeside client at Eagles Nest and of course over here by the airport.

Owl box. That'd be a hoot to have an owl tenant.

Video or it didn't happen. No really, I was gonna say birds or spiders. There is spider spray on the market. Another cheap option for spiders is Vaseline on everything but the glass lens, they are attracted to the infrared night lights.

My bats usually come back from Mexico in March and April....at least in the Lake Arrowhead area. Maybe small owl...I had a screech owl nest under my eaves until I got him a owl box.

To be clearer, it is on the inside of the fascia.

I am seeing activity under the eaves of my cabin on my security cam. Possibly bats?? Would they be there in winter?
