When are we going to start seeing results of staying-at-home and social distancing? It would seem to be about two weeks from that time, which is supposed to be the virus' incubation period.

An opinion from a person (me) that was around during the Polio epidemic of 1949 . Several of my friends ended up in iron lungs. The same issues of staying away from people especially kids existed and there was so very little information since it had to be on the radio at a certain time or you read it on a flyer that was nailed to a telephone pole. Almost 3 thousand died a lot of them children out of about 43, 000 "known" cases. That is about 16 of every 100 people!

If you are looking for a "date" to be able to go out and join others without worrying about the social distancing I suggest you plan for it around August 2020 then back to social distancing from beginning of November 2020 thru June of 2021! The next two to three weeks will not be pleasant and unless by some miracle there is a medicine readily available I fear the cases will be 4 Xs what they are today.

Testing now is only as good as the day it is done. There are thousands of people that may have it and have no clue just as they have no clue about having the regular flu or strep throat or Hepatitis . Carriers exist for almost every disease with the carrier having no symptoms or reason to think they are carriers. You could be one of them. So you go test tomorrow and then on Wednesday you are now a carrier. Are you going to test every day? So distance between people is the answer for now.

Go visit some neighbors that are on your street by talking to each other at 12 feet apart.....go for a walk. Those are recommended as long as you don;t have a group converging on an area.

Both my son in law and daughter are in Law enforcement and have to work. My daughter has MS but still works. My oldest granddaughter suffers from Crohns disease and I have lungs that look like broken glass due to massive radiation for Cancer in the 70's! Talk about concerns! I am taking care and home schooling the 3 grandkids, cooking and trying my best to stay positive and sane. And praying their parents stay healthy and don't being home any unwelcome presents.

Participating on this site is the highlight of my day. My plan is to nag you all in staying sane and healthy. Think this through and remember you only know what you know and do not know what you do not know. I would suggest that everyone on this planet is in that same boat right now. Anger and frustration take too much of a toil on us. Turn up the music, sing and laugh as often as you can. Where are all you joke tellers when we need you? !bighug

SDGrandma,
I remember the polio epidemic very well as a child in Anaheim.
Walking down Center street seeing children in iron lungs with a donation can at the side.
I will never forget that sight. terrible

I remember it as well very vividly. It was 1956-57 when we were visiting my mother's parents in Chicago and she ended up in an iron lung. Scared the heck out of this 13 year old but she survived and learned to walk again. Not anything I'd like to go through again!

solar.... you and I are here because someone in our family made sure we followed the rules..... I was in New York City and lived in an apartment , it was summer and you had to stay inside..... nasty, humid, hot ,boring! The Shadow, Hopalong Cassidy, The Lone Ranger on the radio........in the evening.... .I wonder if my parents ever recovered from the insanity of us inside all summer because my brother and I were not angels..... so moving forward to 2020 ..... 71 years later......the weather is different, the entertainment a heck of a lot better..... communication overwhelming....... same instructions stay home stay apart........ It worked then.......

Thank you to you youngsters that are sharing your perspectives and what you learned from the past. We are really spoiled these days and don’t appreciate how good we have it during our house arrest. .

As hard as all of this is on us, I think everyone needs to realize it could be worse, much worse! So, instead of snapping at each other and trying to egg others on, we should all be helping and supporting each other. We are not all going to agree all the time, but respect the differences and get on with living and learning.

So, is there anyone here that needs assistance, that we can help? Maybe a virtual hug or someone to FaceTime with so they know they are not in this alone. Tog their we will get through this guys unless we continue to try and kill each other with negativity and hate.

Thx Deb, well said! Very beautifully put!

Speaking of eggs and help! Im addition to Teddy Bears Restaurant and Wyatt's at the convention center offering up pantry items, Glazed n’ Amuzed is open on Moonridge as well. They are stocked with milk, eggs, bread, sodas, snacks, etc for the moonridge community!

That's a name I don't recognize, SCM ALERT. Where exactly is Glazed n' Amuzed?

If you are feeling too closed in I would recommend reading some of the novels written about the Spanish Flu epidemic in 1918. ONE HUNDRED MILLION people died. An easy to read book that gives a good overview of living in America at that time is A Time of Angels by Hesse. It's a young adults book but the subject matter is anything but. After reading what it could be if we didn't know what we do now it makes staying home and practicing social distancing so much easier!

Also, for the most part (in my past experience) the depth of the lake doesn't drop too deep too fast -- i.e. , my dog can usually Wade out 20 or so feet before he needs to swim, so there's plenty of play space to get your dog acclimated to the conditions if s/he is new to swimming

Theres a number of spots I take my dogs to along the North shore (between the boat ramp and juniper point, and over by the solar observatory, and even the around the west boat ramp). Which one I go to depends on how crowded places may be (I don't intrude if people are fishing) and the time/effort it takes to get some where if I'm short on time

The parking lot at Juniper Point is still closed. Some street parking is available when the crowds aren't in town

Dizzygal. I always take my Golden to the lake at Juniper Point on the North shore. Haven’t been there since this virus thing started, so I don’t know if the parking lot is open. If it is, you need a Forest Adventure Pass to park there.
