You've been a trusted resource for decades. I still remember your 24/7 LIVE coverage of the Old Fire in 2003 -- had it not been for SCM, we mountain folks would've been completely clueless.

BVES PSPS NOTIFICATION
Bear Valley Electric Service (BVES) is notifying customers that Southern California Edison (SCE) has placed one of the BVES transmission lines on its Monitored Circuit List for a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). The period of concern begins August 5th, at 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. If SCE de-energizes this line, BVES customers will not experience an outage due to redundancy in the transmission lines. However, this condition does create the potential for large scale outages should one of the other transmission lines experience an outage during the PSPS event. BVES continues to monitor the conditions and will keep customers informed of any changes.

Wow. That notice is dated July of 2024 -- it took them a year to make that emergency repair?? Or is this just an example of the type of authorization notice generally applied to these situations?

I believe the work is to repair/replace damaged power lines that power the communications array up on Bertha Peak.

"Helicopter over Bertha peak is related to powerline replacement project for the County" So we pay for the replacement through county taxes AND we pay for the replacement through increases in our utility bills AND we pay for it in continued increases in the cost of power. AND we still deal with PSPS. Makes perfect sense....NOt

Smoke is finally lifting out here in ther desert

We got a message from Mark (SB County Gov) and he said:

The upper-level flow is out of the west-northwest. The smoke in Arizona & Nevada is headed more towards the east into New Mexico, Utah, etc. Our smoke is all coming from the 40,000 acre Gifford in the Los Padres Nat'l Forest. [Click Here]

Here in Morongo, we have an east/n.east wind bloiwing. i would assume that smoke is also coming in from the 8 fires in Nevada and Arizona.
