Derive your own conclusion.

Well, that went nowhere. Perhaps this will help. 40-King is the San Bernardino County Sheriff's helicopter.

Good position for photos and available in case they are needed.

And they do have to be 'somewhere' . As long as Big Boy wasn't the priority. Certain this wasn't a situation like what we see at bottom of summit each winter

Be careful about jumping to conclusions....

More public employees on the job.

Hypocritically driving on the wrong side of the road must be legal in his branch of law enforcement.

More blatant was the county supervisor having 40-king give him a ride home everyday to big bear.

Or he is not law enforcement at all and is actually Press Photographer 2387

I think you're right. I had no idea Press Photographer plates existed, but, after blowing up the front license plate and cruising to the DMV site, it appears to be just such a plate.

Okay, so he's not blowing tax dollars. He's still an idiot driving on the wrong side of the road, albeit no longer hypocritically in the new context.

We were just talking the other day about how we'd only seen 2 of those plates and they were both on vehicles of people we know.

Oh I have. You might want to take a good look at your original photo again.

I hope you're not suggesting 40-King was heroically protecting us from those few idiots driving on the wrong side of the road. That first shot, accidentally capturing the helicopter may give that impression, but the fact is, the helicopter was circling the train, probably had been for quite some time and continued to do so for over an hour.

The timestamp in the picture originally posted is 15:29:34. The last shot of the day was taken at 16:46:41. After that, it took maybe ten minutes to pack up, get to the car and head out toward the freeway. And still overhead, still circling the train, was guess who. That's right. Your tax dollars at work, fighting serious crime, most likely with a full payload of top-level county bureaucrats onboard.

It is possible 40-King left the area and came back (probably with a fresh load of high-level, tax-sucking county bureaucrats). I had other things to do than monitor the skies. It's also possible (remotely) 40-King had legitimate business in the area for two hours, coincidentally at exactly the same time as a once-in-a-lifetime event. But when you stop to consider how San Bernardino County government has been in the news sporadically for the past several decades, vying to win the lifetime achievement award for most corrupt county government in history, that latter possibility is not the first one that comes to mind.

I never mentioned 40-K. But since you seem to want to call people idiots, is that not a broken yellow line on the highway in front of the first car that they are crossing over?
What location was this picture taken?

...you seem to want to call people idiots...

No, I most assuredly would rather not, but sometimes they do such stupid things it becomes unavoidable.

You can't honestly believe driving on the wrong side of the road for miles is excusable behavior. It is, after all (I hesitate to use the term), illegal:

As stated previously, the first image was shot at 15:29:34. Below is a 100% crop, showing the PP fake cop car and a red mustang. Note their positions relative to the silver truck.

And here is a crop of an image shot 19 seconds later. As you can plainly see, nobody is passing. The whole group is pacing the train.

I steadfastly maintain those drivers on the wrong side of the road were idiots. They were likely idiots a long time before I captured them being idiots and there is no reason to suspect they are anything but idiots right now. And since idiocy is a lifelong condition, there is no reason to suspect they will ever cease to be idiots. If you don't like my perfectly proper use of the term to describe them, you'll just have to kick me off the forum.

...glad we solved that...

Maybe in your dreams. The notion that the Immaculate Golden Spirit of Airborne Law Enforcement was on the job is not only preposterous, but impossible.

Let's roll the clock back about 15 minutes from the first picture. At that time, the train was stopped at a place called Manix. We know this because of traffic on the railroad frequencies. Union Pacific was on the air, relaying status reports. Much of what was said was coded in railroad jargon, but here is the basic conversation:

We're stopped at Manix. Something came loose. We need to tighten it. No, we're not sure if it fell off. Yes, we have everything we need. Yes, we have a spare. We should get rolling in 15 or so.

Take a look at this map so you will know the relationship between Manix and the point from which the photographs were taken.

Manix is the eastern terminus of the measurement line. The point from which the photos were shot is marked by a red X.

As you can see, Manix is about a half mile away from the photo point. Note carefully, as you absorb these details, 40-King WAS ALREADY OVERHEAD AND CIRCLING THE TRAIN. The wolfpack of idiots had yet to form because the train was stopped. Yet 40-King WAS ALREADY OVERHEAD AND CIRCLING THE TRAIN.

Now, let's move on to Yermo Road itself. Take a gander at this picture:

This view is looking east from the eastern terminus of the measurement line depicted in the map above. What you see here is a roadblock. Yermo Road is closed. No wolfpack of idiots could have been pacing the train prior to its stopping at Manix. So, in order for the dreamworld scenario in which the Sheriff's helicopter had been called in to do the CHP's job to be real, the subsequent sequence of events had to have unfolded thusly:

Give it up. 40-King was on a sightseeing joyride. The facts simply do not support any other scenario.

Re: Your Tax Dollars at Work
Cornbread, Wed Oct 30 2019, 11:44AM

Maybe you should stop paying taxes so they can't afford to go on joy rides. That will show them.

Re: Your Tax Dollars at Work
Shibbergish, Wed Oct 30 2019, 01:58PM

Maybe you should stop paying taxes...

Get serious. Can you cite a single case where government stopped doing something just because it could no longer afford to do it?

Tax revenue could fall to zero and it wouldn't curtail one government activity. They would merely ramp up borrowing to cover the difference. Governments everywhere will soon adopt some variation of the absurd perpetual motion economic model employed by the feds. Spend like crazy, borrow like crazy, purchase your own debt by printing more fake monopoly money and rationalize the whole process by subscribing to an insane economic theory which pretends a giant stack of freshly minted money injected directly into the system is classed as a credit.

Wise up, people. There is a brick wall coming. We began writing our own epitaph as the primary government economic model evolved from tax-and-spend to borrow-and-spend.

That is a bit odd, there must be something going on with that train for everyone to be following it. I think Sheldon was in the black car chasing it. And yes, I also know of a couple of those PP plates, but don't tell LEO's, they've never seen them!

It was probably ten years ago, I crawled through that engine when it was still on display at the rail museum at Pomona fairgrounds. Too big to get a picture in close quarters. I'll try to find where I scurried away the pics.
