I used a hatchet to do about a 3rd of it. Not uniform and stuck pieces in a mini kettle. Might last all winter!

holeinbow, I did what you said with the firelog, hard to light yep. I grabbed the propane torch AND figured out the saved wrapper holding rest of log got it going too. $3.99 at DIY.

Takes two sheets of the grizzly to light the fire.

I have a friend of a friend with a wholesale lumber business. I can get a lot of cutoff pieces 8 to 14 inches long from 2x4 to 4x8. If there are no knots, I split the good stuff into matchsticks for kindling, matchsticks being 1/4 to 3/8 cross section. The kindling cracker is awesome.

Hmmm, sounds like itd take more than one grizzly, it seems to get skinnier all the time. I miss the big piles of la times that used to show up at the dumpsters...

Hi jilly, i like to get one of those firelogs, warm it up to soften it and cut it into 2 inch cubes. Its a bit hard to light but once its going itll light a fire easily. I get thirty or forty chunks from one firelog and those thirty or forty lights cost no more than five bucks at the market or seven or eight at the liquor stores...

Jilly we use same as Benny. When we have nice dry pine it only takes 2 squares, but it starts full logs not kindling. Saves us a ton of time and headaches

Jilly. We've been using it for two years and love fatwood. We've used product by Plow&Hearth and Better Wood and have great success with both. Usually only need one or two sticks depending on the situation and wood.

Jilly, I use these, they're cheap and work great, I'll usually use like 3 blocks. Fire's light right up, as long as you keep your door cracked open. [Click Here]

Fatwood...does anyone use it and if so what's your favorite brand? Had a sample that worked better than any other fireplace starter but there was no box to see the manufacturer.
